October Read and Infer: The Fall Festival Mix Up!

The Fall Festival at Kind Elementary School is such an exciting event, but there’s been a big MIX-UP! The members of the Lunch Bunch Club are volunteering at the Fall Festival by helping out at the various fall-themed stations. The principal assigned each student a station to help at, but he forgot to type the name of the station on each students’ assignment card! Now the students don’t know which station to volunteer at! Help the Lunch Bunch Club by reading the job descriptions on each assignment card and inferring which station each student was assigned to help with. When you know, match the title of the station to each students’ volunteer badge. Can your students use their inference skills to help the Lunch Bunch Club by working together as literacy detectives?

Join Sam, Sara, Mike, Lee, Theo, Wendy, Darcy, and May in this October Read and Infer edition of The Fall Festival Mix-Up. In each edition, your students will use their own schema and clues from the text to help the Lunch Bunch Club solve a big problem. My hope is that your students come to know these eight characters as “old pals” within your classrooms! At the same time, they will build important literacy skills as they infer, draw conclusions, make predictions, write about their reading and reasoning, and think critically.

In October’s Fall Festival Mix-Up Edition, your students will infer which fall station each member of the Lunch Bunch Club is volunteering at for the big Fall Festival at Kind Elementary School. Your students can work as a whole class, a small group, or within a literacy center to match each station to the correct volunteer badge by using the clues in the job description cards. The pack includes TONS of differentiated recording sheets – choose the format or formats that best meet your students’ needs. Your students will be engaged in discussions as they infer and activate their background knowledge to analyze the clues. They will provide and write evidence in order to prove their inferences throughout several of the recording sheets.

A writing extension activity is included in the pack, complete with blank templates for your students to write their own inference clues for one another.

BONUS: Eight fall inference riddle cards, with differentiated recording sheets, are also included! These inference riddle cards are the perfect addition to your mini lessons, small group reading activities, literacy centers, or independent fast-finisher activities.
