Long Vowel Warm Ups No Prep Phonics Practice for Little Readers

Long Vowel Phonics Practice – This long vowel phonics pack includes tons of interactive practice pages for long vowel patterns. CVC-e (silent e) and vowel teams are included, as well as some additional long vowel patterns. (A list of patterns is provided in this description.) It also contains a colorful, visual poster for each pattern. The colorful posters are available in a printer-friendly edition, too! A differentiated version is also included for students who may struggle with vocabulary comprehension for long vowel words.

The warm up pages include a trace, read, and write section, a word search that contains 5 words containing the long vowel pattern, a section for students to color-code real and nonsense words as they practice reading and decoding skills, and a short, silly story that students will read and illustrate to demonstrate comprehension and fluency. I’m always on the lookout for phonics practice that incorporates reading and context for my students – and this pack does just that!

I have also included a differentiated version of the practice pages, which is perfect for students who might struggle with vocabulary and need some assistance in order to complete the practice page independently. In the differentiated pages, the students will trace, read, and color the vocabulary word instead of drawing the vocabulary word. This provides a bit of scaffolding and helps young readers learn what the long vowel word is. The differentiated version is great for English Language Learners!

There are TWO different long vowel practice pages for every long vowel pattern. Each practice page contains an entirely different story and list of words to decode and draw (or color).

These warm-ups are great to use as a mini-lesson for introducing long vowel patterns, as weekly homework, morning work, independent practice, or used within a word work center. Post the coordinating poster within the room for students to use as a visual aide, or use it while you are compiling a list of words for each long vowel pattern. There are so many possibilities for this pack! 🙂

Each warm-up page contains the same consistent format – so your students will easily and quickly learn to be independent as you work through the pages.
