Spin & Spell Christmas: Word Work Freebie!

This post is going to be short and sweet tonight.  I’m feeling very behind this week…I have yet to type up my lesson plans for next week and I have interims to fill out as well….is it Christmas break yet?! 🙂

I wanted to add something fresh and new to my word work bins for these crazy days before break.  (To be “real” with you: I want to add something old and simple to my word work bins that would trick my kids into thinking it was new and fresh.) 😉

I threw this little word work activity together last night and would love to share it with you!
Click on the picture below or click HERE to download the file from Google Docs.

Just laminate the page and add a pencil and paper clip to your word work bins.  Students will put the the pencil in the paper clip to create a spinner that they can spin with their fingers. They must write their word according to the number the paper clip lands on.  Throw some crayons or markers in your word work bin and you are all set! I think my kiddos are going to have fun playing this little “game” to practice spelling their trick words (sight words) next week during Daily 5.

I’m thankful tomorrow is Friday! My husband and I are having his department from work over to our house Saturday night for a little Christmas party. In hidden code, that last sentence actually says something along the lines of: slightly stressed and needing to clean the house, go to the grocery store, finish laundry, and cook some yummy holiday food over the next 48 hours. Whew! I’m tired just typing that but I know we’ll have fun!
🙂 I hope you enjoy the freebie!

  1. This is great! I am going to have them practice using this before the spelling test tomorrow. It will be fun and they had less time this week to practice so perfect. Thank you so much!
