Story Puzzles: Writing Center

Description

An open-ended, creative writing center that will keep writers engaged for days and days on end! This writing center contains a variety of color and ink-friendly “setting” and “character” puzzle cards. Students use the setting and character cards as inspiration for their story writing! The best part? It’s virtually NO PREP – just print the cards and place them in your writing center for an instant, long-lasting learning station.

There are two ways you can use these cards:
1) Students match the “setting” puzzle piece with its coordinating “character” puzzle piece to write a story in which the setting and characters “fit together.”
2) Mix and match the setting and character cards to write stories that are as silly, creative, and as open-ended as they want!

Reinforce setting/character, narrative writing, creative writing, and general writing skills while eliminating “writer’s block!” With so many story possibilities, your little writers will be busy writing for weeks and weeks!

This pack contains:
24 setting and character puzzle piece cards in color
24 setting and character puzzle piece cards in black and white
2 differentiated graphic organizers – perfect for kindergarten, first grade, and second grade!
3 differentiated writing templates. A template is included for kindergarten, first grade, and second and third grade writers.
Color and ink-friendly labels for your setting and character “buckets” as shown in the cover picture (optional)

Students can pull the cards and complete a coordinating graphic organizer for their story through illustrations, writing, or a combination of both. Then, students can use the writing templates provided, their journals, notebooks, or regular writing paper to write their creative stories!

Bonus Use: The cards can also serve as a great anchor chart for teaching setting and character to your students!
