These NO PREP reading intervention Boom Cards™ for Boom Learning™ help students decode and read words with other long vowel patterns (examples include igh, y as an e, y as an i, ei as in “neighbor” and “eight”)! If you love my No Prep Reading Intervention Binder 2nd Edition (long vowels and more complex vowel patterns) or my No Prep Reading Intervention Binder for Beginning Readers (short vowels) you will LOVE this deck! These task cards can be used and played on any device that has access to the Internet, such as a tablet, mobile device, laptop, or computer!

How do you play and use these digital task cards?
Students will touch the dots and say each sound within the word. Blend the sounds together and read the word aloud. Then, click on the picture that matches the word. Just like in my binder, you will notice that the long vowel patterns are coded with a long bold line and the vowel sound the pattern makes. This helps remind the student what vowel sound the pattern makes. The two pictures that students have to choose from on each card have been strategically chosen to help students really concentrate on the sounds they see and hear as they are reading the word. For example, when sounding out the word s-k-y, a picture of “sky” and “ski” are included. This teaches students to really pay attention to the phonics pattern and it helps them focus on the skill of cross-checking by using the picture. This deck is perfect for reading intervention!

This pack was designed for any student who struggles with decoding words that have other long vowel patterns in them, or, it is ideal for any student who is learning how to read words with other long vowel patterns (y as i, y as e, igh, ight, and ei). However, it’s important to focus on the SKILLS your students need to be reinforced and taught. Therefore, many second grade teachers and TONS of special education teachers have used this with their struggling readers who are still working on vowel patterns, and they have found SUCCESS!
