These end of year sentence writing worksheets were created to provide students with writing practice with sentence-level writing skills. Sentence-level writing is the foundation for all composition pieces. The writing activities feature both end-of-year and summer themes! You’ll get over 30 writing practice pages to use, and students will reflect on their school year, write about plans for the summer, and compose sentences about topics such as the beach, sea animals, field day, teachers, friendships, camping, road trips, vacations, their classroom, school reflections, and more!
 
This end-of-year sentence writing pack includes the following:
 
Sentences and Fragments
•Identify sentences and fragments.
•Convert fragments into sentences.
•Convert a paragraph with embedded fragments into complete sentences.
Scrambled Sentences
•Unscramble and rewrite sentences.
•Unscramble and rewrite sentences with proper capitalization and punctuation.
 
Sentence Types
•Identify sentence types (statement and question).
•Identify sentence types (statement, question, command, and exclamation).
•Write a statement and a question sentence for a given image.
•Write each sentence type for a given topic.
 
Basic Conjunctions (because, but, so)
•Complete sentence stems using “because” and “but”.
•Complete sentence stems using “because”, “but”, and “so”.
 
Subordinating Conjunctions
•Complete a sentence when given a sentence stem that starts with a subordinating conjunction.
 
Combining Sentences
•Combine two short sentences when given a specific cue to use (example: “Use ‘and’.”).
•Combine two short sentences without cues.
 
Sentence Expansion
•Expand a kernel sentence by answering question words.
•Expand a kernel sentence by answering question words about a given image.
 
This writing pack can be used with kindergarten through third grade students, or any students who would benefit from explicit practice with sentence-level writing skills or review. Kindergarten teachers can use these pages as a whole-group model and in a teacher-directed setting. Third grade teachers can use the pack as independent practice for their students’ sentence skills!

Students need explicit instruction on how to write clear and thoughtful sentences. The resource was purposely designed for flexibility. Each sentence skill includes differentiated activities. You can use the activities individually and use as little or as many as you would like from each sentence-level skill! You can also choose the pages you would like your students to practice and work on and staple them together in a packet that uses the optional writing title or cover page!
