Monday Made It…Kind Of!

There is a difference between being a creative person and being a crafty person. I think that in some way, you need to be creative to be crafty, but you don’t need to be crafty to be creative.  See, once in a while I can get my mind to “think outside of the box.” I can often whip up something on a whim and I love to create fun new science material for my classroom.  But if you give me a hot glue gun, I’m clueless. I have a brand new, in-the-box Cricut machine that I’ve not really touched. One, because I’m scared of it and two, because I don’t know what to do with it.  I know you can make paper people and things like that? But then I don’t know what to do with the paper people!  (I even keep buying cartridges because it makes me feel like I’m a professional Cricut creator. Shh.) When I was a teenager, the fun thing to do was paint a t-shirt with puffy paint for the football games. My friends’ shirts always looked great – stenciled, bedazzled (because that was cool back then), and colorful.  Mine looked like I held the paint in front of a fan, pressed the On button, and let the shirt design itself.

Needless to say, I’m linking up for my first Monday Made It!  🙂 I know. You are super excited right now.

The first thing I made this week was a Magnetic Board for my desk at school.  I’m trying to make my room have more of a “homey” feel to it this year, so I wanted to add some pictures to my desk area.

I started by buying this magnetic sheet at Joann Fabrics and a spool of yarn.

I weaved the ribbon through the sheet and tied the ends with a bow at the top. Then, I added a magnetic flower to it.  You can add any kind of decoration piece to the board by hot gluing  a magnet to the back. (This one came with a magnet already attached. Whew. No need to dust off the hot glue gun this week!)

Then I picked out some magnets that I liked.  You could also make your own magnets by gluing a magnet on the back of buttons or painted stones.
My final product was a cute magnet board to put on my desk at school this year! 🙂
My second project this week was with Water Beads.  Have you seen these things?! You probably have.  I’m usually late to the party.  Regardless of whether or not these are old news, I’m in love with them now!  My mom and I went to the flea market this past weekend and these little things were at a booth.  I bought…a lot haha!  You can find them {HERE}.
If you want to add some fun decor to your house all you need is a tube of these little magic water beads and a battery operated LED light:
Dump out the tube of beads and soak them in a bowl of water overnight.

Drain the excess water and pour them into a vase.  Submerge the LED light into the beads and..Ta-Da!  You have a fun and easy centerpiece!  What’s even better, the beads will water your plants or flowers for up to 6 weeks! They are reusable and their color never fades. They come in 12 fun colors. I bought teal, purple, and pink! I love them!

Thanks for joining me on my first Monday Made It!  Head over to 4th Grade Frolics to see what everyone else has created this week. 🙂
