5 for Friday…On Saturday!

I’m linking up (a day late) with the sweet Doodle Bugs Teaching to share five pictures with you from my week!
Some of my girlfriends and I started a book study on Monday evenings to help us dig further into God’s Word and to refresh ourselves throughout the week with faith and friendship. We started the book, Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver. It’s wonderful so far! We will be discussing chapter 3 this Monday.  This is a book that is truly speaking to my heart – balancing life’s duties and getting worked up and stressed out with deadlines and job obligations is something I am super guilty of. This book is helping me further my understanding of balancing everything and making sure my faith is put first.
You can find this book on Amazon by clicking below if you are interested in reading it with me! 🙂
I went into school for a few hours last night (I know, what?!).  I make it a point every year to go in just once over winter break for a few hours. I spend my time doing little things that I never get time for throughout the week.  Before I got busy cleaning, however, I rearranged my guided reading groups.  I assessed all of my student’s DRA scores before we left for break, so our groups changed quite a bit.  The process was simplified by using sticky tabs instead of paper and pencil. 🙂 I simply moved all the kids names off of my laminated page and rearranged them based on their DRA levels.  (I’m hoping to get a binder created in the future for y’all with my templates and pages!) 🙂
After I rearranged reading and math groups, I started cleaning and organizing! I sorted new sight words for our third nine weeks and cleaned up my small group area a bit! 🙂  (Find out how I organize sight words for small group by clicking HERE.)  My guided reading binder cover is from the adorable Haley O’Connor. Find the covers HERE
After I cleaned I updated my word wall for our next Fundations unit. #igotlazyinDecember
Someone on my Facebook page asked a great question last night: Do the different colors mean anything?  The answer is no! 🙂 I just printed the words on different colored paper to add a pop of color to my room.  The only exception is that the yellow words are all of the kindergarten words they were expected to learn last year.  You can find my circle word wall labels HERE.
Finally, I did a whole lot of cuddling with this little cutie this week! Since it was our last week of break, I spent a good deal of time simply enjoying being home, savoring the last few nights our living had that “Christmas tree glow,” making coffee whenever I felt like it, and sleeping in wayyyy too late!  On Monday morning, it’s back to reality… 🙂
I hope you are having a great weekend and enjoying your last couple days of winter break!
Thanks for catching up with me and stopping by. 🙂
I’ll be back on Wednesday when Wordless Wednesday returns!

  1. I NEED to go in, too! I always feel so much better when I spend that time before going back. I love the way you rearrange your guided reading groups. Genius! I wish I could just go in your classroom and see how you organize everything! So many good ideas. 🙂

  2. I love the idea of the book you and your friends are studying. That seems perfect! I would love to go into school for a few hours to make Monday a little easier. But my school system does not let us go in after hours or on weekends. It's frustrating at times. I hope I did enough on the 19th so that Monday isn't too chaotic.
Enjoy the rest of your break!

  3. I wanted to go in over break too but we were told the building is closed during break. Our quarter doesn't end for 2 more weeks, so I guess I can still get all caught up when I get back to school next week. I have been sleeping in too. Well, as much as I can with a 6 and almost 2 year old. I love getting the extra cuddles. Good luck on Monday.
