Determining Importance Comprehension -Let’s have FUN with hands-on learning! This engaging comprehension pack contains everything you need to teach students how to determine importance when reading text. A unique, concrete mini-lesson is included to help your students connect this reading strategy to real-life application. Then, your students will participate in six hands-on sorting activities as they go on “adventure trips” around the classroom! Students will read the adventure mission letter included and work in groups, individually, as a whole class, or in small groups (the choice is yours) to sort the items within the envelopes and determine the three most important ones needed to go on their “trip!” Recording sheets are included for each Determining Importance Adventure Trip! Your students will engage and activate critical thinking skills as they discuss items they believe are most important, rationalize and explain their reasoning, and activate prior knowledge and main idea skills!

Mini Lesson Discussion Directions – I’ve included language and explanations to use with the children as you work through the concrete mini lesson.
Anchor chart labels (color and print friendly versions)
Sort It Out! Text Application Practice. Students will read the facts and cut and paste the information based on facts that are importance for understanding and facts that are “extra.”
