Superhero Student Teacher! & Springtime Math Freebie!

I know I missed Wednesday’s Pinterest Pick of the Week, but let me explain my Wednesday:

Wednesday, March 28th – 6:00am:

I woke up like every other morning.  Except I felt awful.  I haven’t been feeling well all week (sinuses) but knew spring break was right around the corner (2 days now!) and so I figured I could hold out and make it through the week.  (I hate calling off work and I would rather wear a bag over my head than write sub plans or leave my kiddos to the wind.)

It took me forever to get ready because I kept having to lie down again.  An hour later, I left my house with my teaching bag and drove to work.
7:15am:    I can do it.  I can teach today.
….I’m copy-maker, desk fairy, counselor, keeper-of-the-recess games, and ruler of the whiteboard.  I’ll surely make it.
If I can teach a child to read, my chances of teaching under the weather are pretty good.
8:00am:  I’ll just put my head down on my desk for a minute….I feel dizzy.  Booting up my computer seems like an exhausting task.
8:15am:  I surrender to asking the office to call me a sub. I can deal with headaches and pain but now I’m nauseous and suddenly character traits, contractions, and kilograms do not mean much to me.
8:20am: Wait for it….
Superhero Student Teacher to the rescue!!!
Michelle is still student teaching in my building but is assigned to a kindergarten classroom.  The office called a sub for me but asked Michelle to teach my class. My kids were SO excited to see her again and I didn’t have to write plans before I left.  They honestly did not really care if I was sick or not. They just cared that Mrs. H was back and were all smiles when they arrived. I loved it! She knows my kids, knows our routine, and knows the ins and outs of our room.  I was able to leave for the day and know my kiddos were in the best hands. 🙂
The rest of the day was boring.  I spent 2 hours at the Urgent Care, was prescribed a strong z-pack and slept the day away (literally – I slept from 11:30-5:00). I feel a ton better today and was back in the classroom, where character traits, contractions, and kilograms were still happily waiting for me.
To make up for not having a Pinterest Pick of the Week (I promise there will be one next week!), here is a freebie from my latest product, Springtime Story Problem Math Pack.  It comes with 15 story problem & work mat pages.  Each page takes your students through a step-by-step sequence of solving a story problem, all with cute springtime stories!

Remember, if you haven’t entered my giveaway yet (a $25 Target or Amazon gift card!)
Giveaway ends Sunday, April 1st at 9:00pm.
I’m off to grade papers and get some more rest. 🙂
Happy Learning,
