Spring Cleaning, Fry Words 101-200: Pack #2, and a Rumor Alert!

Tomorrow is our last day before spring break!  Yay! The birds are chirping. The sun is shining. I’m smiling.  I can’t wait!

Hold on.  I live in Ohio.  The birds are south….the snow is falling….and my winter jacket is still being put to good use.  (However, I’m still happy!)  I’m excited to catch up on sleep, read a good book, and spend some time with my family.

Today I carved out about 15-20 minutes in our day to do spring cleaning – of desks and book bins, that is.    We went through each and every folder in our desks and talked about what should – and shouldn’t – be in it.  Then we cleaned out our school pouches and threw away broken crayons, pencils, dried up glue, etc.  It was a bit chaotic but really needed! It also gave me the opportunity to remind students of little procedures that some of them begin to forget about during this time of the year. Do you “spring clean” with your students?

Tonight’s post is going to be short and sweet.  I want to quickly share with you the latest item in my little TpT shop: Sight Word Fluency Pack #2.  It focuses on Fry Words 101-200 and follows the same format as the first pack.  Because the sight words are more challenging, the sentences are a little more difficult than the first pack.  This makes it great for Tier II or III first graders, struggling or Tier III second graders, intervention students, or even advanced kindergartners who are ready to be challenged.

You can click {HERE} or any of the preview pictures below to jump over and check it out!  It comes with a pre and post assessment, flash cards, and a teacher planning page.

These fluency practice pages contain a short amount of text that uses the age-old theory of sentence extension.  This will improve sight word recognition and provide students with the opportunity to read these sight words within the context of a very short amount of repeated text. Students must first practice the three targeted words for each lesson, identify and highlight the words in the word hunt (which contains very similarly spelled sight words to increase the challenge), and then practice the sentence.

These have been a great alternative to my Sight Word Fluency Passages for Reading Intervention – especially with my students who need a boost of confidence.  I’ve been using them the past two months as a “Small Group Reading Warm-Up.”  It provides my kids with a very quick, yet effective reading warm-up so that they are ready to go when we dig into our text for the day.  I’ve been printing two pages, back to back, as their reading “warm-up.”

Jump to my TPT Store and download the free preview.  It will provide you with materials to complete a lesson with your students in order to try it out. 🙂

-Rumor Alert – Many of you have contacted me asking if I plan on making a second edition of my Sight Word Fluency Passages.  I will let the secret out that the second edition is on it’s way!  Give me a bit of time though – the first one took almost my whole life to make (okay..it took a good few months though!).  Having two packs should provide teachers with enough intervention and differentiation for the whole year.  (I also know many of you are using them as a homework program, so you should be good to go for next school year!)  Your creativity with my products never ceases to amaze me! This is why I adore all of my bloggy-teacher friends!
As always, I’ll give tonight’s pack away FREE to the first 5 people who leave a comment with your email.  I love hearing from all of you and catching up on how your week is going! 🙂  I will be back on Sunday with this week’s Weekend App Attack!  I can’t wait to share some of the great apps I’ve used this week!  Thanks for stopping by!
Happy Learning,

  1. YAY! You already know how much I loved your fluency packs. I'm so excited that you are making another fluency passage pack. I totally understand about taking time though! I swear, it takes me FOREVER to make each pack. I will definitely add your fluency #2 pack to my wish list. LOVE your stuff!

  3. That’s nice! You’re lucky to have students who are willing to help you with these spring cleaning sessions. Imagine how arduous the job would be if you’re gonna assign the task to one person only, given that classrooms sometimes store more clutter than a house. Anyway, good luck with this year’s spring cleaning!
