Description

This nonfiction comprehension game is intended as a way to encourage discussion after students have read a nonfiction book either independently, in partners, or within a small group. It is a great way to revisit and review a piece of text.

Your students will roll a die and move that many spaces on the board. The student will then complete the comprehension task on the reference sheet that matches the picture he or she landed on. An independent “spinner” version of this game has been included, too!

The most important part of a small-group lesson is the time spent IN the text. Please use this resource as a quick comprehension activity that can be done at the end of your small-group time or as an independent or partner reading activity outside of small groups. The board game has purposefully and specifically been designed to not have an “END” space. This allows the conversation and discussion to keep going so that rich conversation does not stop simply because a student reaches the finish line.

Additional versions of this game (fiction, vocabulary, oral language, etc.) will be available in the near future within a paid resource. I hope this freebie sample gives you a taste of what’s to come and is useful to you and your students! Be sure to follow my TPT store to be notified of when additional games become available.
