Product Swap S’More Linky!

I’ve linked up with some fellow bloggers to do a product swap and share some great activities and units with all of you.  As a first grade teacher, my students LOVE good ol’ Henry and Mudge books.  I love them too because the students relate well to the stories and the books generally follow a solid beginning, middle, and end.  This makes it easy for my students to identify the problem and solution of the book, as well as make connections.  Not to mention, they get so excited because this is generally the first *chapter book* I introduce to my lower readers. “oooooo….ahhhh….” is the reaction I always get. 🙂

So, I was thrilled when Samantha, from Ms. Smarty Pants, let me try out her Henry and Mudge Reading Response pack with my firsties.  It is so cute and my kids just ate it up!

We used this pack with the book The Big Test (by Cynthia Rylant).  I chose this particular Henry and Mudge book on purpose because it has three chapters.  This made it easy for my students to understand and dig into the beginning, middle, and end of the book.

Samantha has included all kinds of great reading response sheets and organizers with this pack.  This made it really easy for my students to understand what I wanted them to focus on in that day’s reading group.  It also allowed them to complete the organizers independently. (Not to mention, they are *cute*!)
My favorite part of the pack is the visual cue cards that Samantha included.   We used these for all kinds of things!  They were great visual reminders as we discussed comprehension skills throughout each chapter.  Later on, I used these on my story board so the kids could refer back to them each day.

These cute writing templates were a hit!  I used them for all kinds of things.  We wrote vocabulary words on them, made predictions, and wrote personal and text-to-text connections.  The kids later stapled them together into their own Henry and Mudge “booklet” to take home.
We had so much fun with this pack.  Thank you, Samantha, for letting my first grade friends and I try it out!  ðŸ™‚  Please head over and visit Samantha’s blog and TpT shop to check this out for yourself. 🙂
