Monday Made It – A Lot!

Feel free to call me Martha Stewart this week.  I went into a craft-frenzy mode!  I dug out the hot glue gun, the rhinestones, and the ribbon and went to town creating some crafty items for my classroom.  Here’s what I made!

I can never find my dry erase markers (someone must eat them in my classroom), so I decided to turn a boring magnetic holder into a glitzy, cute one!

I bought this from Office Max for about $3.50

Then I found this great glitter ribbon that is peel-and-stick AND can be re-positioned just like those vinyl wall stickers.  (I found it at Jo-Ann Fabrics and Michael’s.)
With some glitter and a little ribbon, my marker holder now matches the rest of my classroom decor. 🙂
The next thing I made is now my *favorite!*  I hung it up in my room today and it looks SO cute!  I haven’t had a classroom schedule hung up in my room for a few years now.  With all of our goal-setting for students and new evaluations, I figured it was time to make this a priority again, but I wanted something different from the standard pocket chart cards.
I used velcro to attach my cards to a piece of thick ribbon.  This way, the cards can be switched in and out when needed.  Then, in between the schedule cards, I tied a bow, using different colors of ribbon all the way down. I love how it turned out! 🙂
I actually did this next product a few weeks ago, but I haven’t gotten around to blogging about it until now.  I took my old filing cabinet and painted it…pink of course!  It looks MUCH cuter now.  I knew something needed to be done with it when even our janitor commented about how ugly it was a few months ago haha!

I also did a makeover on my classroom stools and some picture frames that I can’t wait to share with you next week. 🙂  I’m off to visit my friend’s new baby (sooo precious!) and get some work done in my classroom.  My bestie, Leah, is coming along with me because she claims she loves to laminate and put up bulletin boards (I mean, I’m not going to turn down back-to-school help, right?!).  Have a fabulous Monday!  Don’t forget to link up with Tara and show off what you’ve created this week! 🙂

  1. Love them all! Especially the pink filing cabinet. I have an old grayish metal bookcase I'd love to paint in my room, but since it belongs to the school I don't know if I can…what kind of paint did you use on the metal and did you prime it?

    1. Hi Jessica! I just used an all-surface spray paint. It said "Works with metals, plastics, wood" on the back of the can. I bought it at Lowe's Hardware. I didn't use a primer but I did take a fine sandpaper and smooth the filing cabinet down on the top and the sides first. 🙂

    1. Thanks Jamie! 🙂 I just posted them in my TpT shop this morning. :). They are called Editable Bright Stripes Schedule Cards. They come with editable cards and 64 pre-made cards. 🙂

  2. Any chance you will be sharing with a freebie :)…the schedule is great……My theme this year is Dr. Seuss but I am not crafty like you ..It is sooo great to be inspired. I use to be very creative but got in trouble a whole lot as a kid with glitter on the carpet and blinging everything. Your classroom looks great!!!!

    1. Thanks Mia! 🙂 I will be giving a few of them away soon when I post about the schedule cards this week. 😉 Dr. Seuss theme will be so cute! 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting. 🙂

  3. I love the idea of spray painting a file cabinet! Were you able to do it in your classroom with a sheet or something under it or does the paint get everywhere? I'm heading to my room at the end of the week and that project is going to the top of my to-do list!

    1. Hi Jessica,

I painted it right in my classroom with garbage bags underneath. I let it dry over the weekend. It took about 3 coats of paint to cover, but that may have been because the pink was a lighter shade. 🙂

  4. My filing cabinet looks exactly like yours did. Must do something about it! I bet you felt really great when you got it done. Did it take lots and lots of cans of paint?
