Hoppy Easter Pack, Fundations, & Wedding Shoes!

I usually flip on my computer and get a ton of work done while I watch The Bachelor every Monday night.  I hate the show but for some reason, look forward to it every Monday. There seems to be nothing great on Monday television now.  Does anyone have a Monday night recommendation that could become my newest “Monday-work-night show?”

I posted my latest writing pack to TPT on Sunday.  I think it turned out really cute.  It has a lot of creative writing prompts, some thinking maps (nonfiction and fiction), a KWL chart, shape poem, and an Easter classroom meeting page.  Here’s a preview –

I’ll send this “Hoppy Easter” writing pack to the first 5 followers to leave a comment and e-mail address. 🙂
I’d been going back and forth between wanting a pair of purple heels or ivory heels for my wedding shoes.  I found these purple sparkly heels and fell in love!!  They look a lot better in person…they are really sparkly when they’re on.  What do you think?!  ðŸ™‚  It’s so hard to leave them in the box…they really want me to wear them…  They’ve told me.
This has nothing to do with education (but then again neither does purple sparkly heels) but I need to post a picture of my little Weston.  Every afternoon for the past couple of weeks, my students have packed up quickly and quietly at the end of the day to hear a story I make up new story about him getting in trouble.  They just love him! (And I don’t mind the new & improved pack-up routine!)
Finally, does anyone out there use the Fundations spelling and phonics program?  It is based off of Wilson Reading.  I honestly really enjoy the program.  I have seen a great amount of improvement in my students’ spelling this year  – but, after using it day after day, my students are a bit sick of using a whiteboard, magnetic board, and notebook over and over again.  (and over and over again…)
I’ve been playing around with the idea of creating some resources/activities to go with it.  I know that is probably w-a-y against the program in some way. (The program even discourages the use of a Smart Board due to it being “distracting” for kids.)  That’s fine, but my kids are at the point right now where no matter how funny my stand-up phonics comedy-act is, it is spring and they need something new – even if it’s just to use on Fridays to mix things up.  (Shh..don’t tell the Fundations Police. I promise I’ll still follow their complete plan!)  If you use Fundations, let me know and I would love to brainstorm with you or see what kind of resources you could use in your classroom! 🙂
Thanks for letting me go on that little rampage.  That is why I adore all of you!  I’m off to do a little planning for next week.  My class will be starting The Chocolate Touch after spring break and I’m so excited!  I have Mrs. Bainbridge’s “sweet” unit to use! 🙂
Happy Learning,

  1. Ok I was trying to type really fast to be top 5! What I wanted to say was, I LOVE the shoes!! LOVE the sparkle, the color, and the shape of the front. They look so classy. Weston is soooo cute! Love me a sweet pooch. 🙂

  2. The shoes are great. I splurged on teal wedding shoes and they were one of my favorite details of the whole day, even though I'm not really a shoe person.

As for Monday night shows… well, How I Met Your Mother is fantastic, and I am getting pretty into Smash, too! If you still need another suggestion, Dancing With the Stars is starting up and my favorite football player is on it this season! 🙂

    Have a great night!

  3. Your unit looks awesome! Your shoes are too cute…I am sure they will look awesome on you. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, them!! Hope you found a show to watch tonight. I turned the tv off and forced myself to get things done tonight. Got taxes done, 1/2 of my grade cards, and tons of laminating…of course that was before my 2 hour nap. Must have been exhausted!!

  5. I definitely vote for the purple shoes!!! When I get married… someday… I am totally going to get awesome shoes.

My reading program sounds like Fundations in that they don't want you to do ANYTHING except for what they say. Jerks!!

    Marvelous Multiagers!

  6. We use the FUNdations program at my school and let me tell you…..if you stick to the script your kids will be BORED! I see a real advantage with using it, but the rote routine needs some sprucing up to say the least. After teaching young ones for so long, my attention span tends to match their's so we play games and add music to some of the lessons to break up the monotany…I've hosted training in my classroom and hadn't gotten into trouble for changing up the routine {a little}……YET!I've also made some SUPER simple center extension activities too…I think I may have some pics to post..will dig and see….AND I LOVE your shoes. They'd be pretty in my closet right next to my new zebra printed ones! 🙂

  7. I know this post is 3 years old, but I was wondering if you ever found anyone to collaborate with? Our district uses Fundations and while I also like the program, I sometimes catch my firsties rolling their eyes when I say it's time. I really have to jump through hoops to keep everyone engaged. Sometimes I wonder if I should do small groups….?
