Greetings From California!

My mind is taking a break from school-related blogging to share some pictures with you of my trip to California so far!  I’m loving it and I’m so glad I decided to hop a plane last minute. 🙂

Yesterday, after a long day of traveling, we visited San Francisco for a few hours after we landed.  We saw the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, and lots of trolleys!

Then we headed to Monterey, where we are staying for my husband’s business trip.  I am having so much fun! It is beautiful here! Our hotel is gorgeous and there is so much to do within walking distance (super important, since I do not have a vehicle while Chris is away at his meetings) Today, I visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  I even got to touch a starfish.  It took me a good 5 minutes or so to get brave enough to touch it. The guy working the exhibit had to count to 3 for me haha.  (Mind you, there were lots of 5 years olds around me who had no problem with this part of the aquarium.)

I’m typing this blog post from our hotel room, with the patio doors open.  I can hear the harbor seals and otters outside. 🙂 They are really cute and they pop up all over the water! I sat outside at the Monterey Fisherman’s Wharf watching them as I ate lunch. So cool!

I also discovered that Northern California is COLD. The water is freezing but I had to put my feet into the Pacific Ocean at least once while I was here. Ohio was 90 degrees when I left and I only packed sundresses and one pair of cropped jeans. I’ve already bought a San Francisco hoodie, a Monterey sweatshirt, and a long sleeved shirt. Haha I am freezing but not complaining, because it really is beautiful around here!
Thanks for stopping by and letting me share my vacation pictures with you. 🙂

  1. Beautiful pictures and perfect timing for a getaway. You must have had inside info that the building is closed until the end of next week for waxing that is the only way you could be persuaded to leave. 🙂 Looks like you are enjoying your time away. You deserve it!

  2. Oh ya, sorry about the weather here! San Francisco has crazy micro climates that make packing for people a nightmare! So glad you're enjoying CA! Definitely {steal} the car for a bit and head into Carmel – cutest little town…where Clint Eastwood used to be the mayor 🙂

    1. Liz, Haha I couldn't take it anymore today! I took a taxi to the mall and bought myself some fall clothes that I could use for teaching after I leave here. I am SO cold lol!

  4. My boyfriend recently moved out to the San Francisco area (Coast Guard) and I won't be able to join him for about a year due to teaching commitments here. You make me eager to go visit him in the future! Loved the pictures. It sounds awesome. 🙂

  5. Glad you were able to snag a last minute ticket and get away for a while! Bummer about the weather…my mom and I flew to FL to visit my sister over Christmas. It had been 80s and above for the three weeks prior…the day we went was 60! And I froze in my sandals, which were the only footwear I had!

I think I could touch a starfish, no problem. But a sea cucumber would be my Achilles' heel!

  6. Northern California is always chilly and notoriously foggy, although beautiful! I live in the Orange County area, but if you ever want to visit – we would love to host you and your hubby! (WE are down by Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm and the BEACH! Southern California is typically warmer and the Pacific is warmer down here! So glad you are sharing pictures of your adventure! I have not traveled up that far, but have only heard wonderful things! Enjoy! (Have you gone to any of the Gold Rush attractions?) Don't forget to look that up too!
