Five for Friday – I Mean…Saturday!

On Wednesday, we got treated to a concert by Spencer’s Own band.  Oh my word, they were absolutely awesome!! The kids had a BLAST and I think the teachers had even more fun than the kids!!! For an hour and a half our whole school jammed out to country hits and some other popular songs! The guys had a great message throughout their entire concert – Everyone is beautiful! They discussed uniqueness and differences in between their songs. It was a wonderful morning!

I have exactly 4 and a half days left with my kiddos!  Tonight I am working on their end of the year slideshow as my gift to them. People, I have TEARS in my eyes!!! This class was just SOO special to me this year. I’m not sure why – I think it was because we went through a lot of exploring together with writing, small group  math, and so many other new concepts for my classroom. They just completely SOARED and I could truly not be more proud of every one of them. Friday is going to be a happy but sad day for me as I say goodbye to these little guys!
Look at their writing growth!!!!
I gave them an informal assessment on the very first day of school – “I feel…”
I gave it again this week.  Then I passed back the very first piece they did for me and we compared. They laughed, giggled, and celebrated!! It was awesome!! 🙂

This afternoon I took a blogging step that was way out of my comfort zone. I VIDEO chatted with the amazing and adorable Sheila from Sprinkle Teaching Magic. She’s doing this awesome You Tube series called “Teachers We Love.” We chatted for about a half hour on school, balancing life with blogging, and about TpT! She’s a doll and I had so much fun.  We’ll let you all know when the interview is up and running!  You can check out her other videos in the series by heading to her You Tube page HERE.
I learned I am not very good with web cams.  Do you see how I’m looking down? I had such a hard time looking at the web cam at the top of my computer instead of in the middle of the screen haha! During my interview I won’t be surprised if it looks like I have a vision problem haha.

This week my kids just did “free writing” during Daily 5 time.  I received the *sweetest* papers from my kiddos.  Would this not just completely make your day?! <3 (And take a look at those commas in a series! Love when this shines through without any help or prompting from me. A true sign that they are retaining all of the writing skills we’ve been working on.)
If I haven’t blogged as much lately or put out a new product in awhile it’s because of this presentation I’ve been working on obsessing over.  WOAH is all I can say about it.  It’s turning out great and I am SOO excited to present on this topic throughout the summer but goodness is it taking me forever to finish! If you live in Northeast Ohio and want me to send you some information on how you can attend, just email me at secondgradesugarandspice@gmail.com and I would be happy to fill you in on some info! 🙂

I am now off to Target to buy DVDs so that I can burn our slideshow tomorrow and cry when I watch it.  Thanks so much for catching up on my week with me! I hope you all have a wonderful three day weekend and a very happy Memorial Day! 🙂

  1. Sounds like a fun week! I love your students' writing and how much growth you have seen with them! I have second graders who can't do that yet! I totally want to go to the workshop, but Ohio would be a bit of a drive. Oh well . . . maybe we'll make it work some day!

Question: Does your school have a handwriting program? I often wonder how much writing stamina with letter formation is keeping my kiddos back.
