My Visual Plans For This Week – A Day Late! :)

I hope you all had a great weekend!  Yesterday, I spent the day enjoying and working in my home office because my sweet, sweet husband painted it for me on Saturday! I love how it turned out! Besides some things to add on the walls, it is finally finished!  We have been trying to work on our house bit by bit since we moved into it in October but it is super hard when we are both so busy!

Yay for another room being finished! 🙂

Do you see that orange toy Weston has in this picture?  It squeaks.  A lot.  As in, he squeaks that toy all.day.long.  Don’t get me wrong. I love that he loves it but picture yourself waking up at 1:30 in the morning on Friday night to the squeaking of a dog toy.
He’s lucky he’s cute. 🙂

On Friday, we played a fun game of place value scoot!  Instead of having the kids scoot around the room in order, however, I randomly placed the cards around the room.  The students had a blast walking around the room to find all of the cards and solve the problems.  It was a great way to get them movin’ and grovin’ with place value.
This game can be found in Mrs. Fun’s store by clicking HERE and checking out her Place Value Pack.
We worked on these critical thinking math problems for our “math minis” this week.  I simply wrote an answer on the board such as “The answer is 9.”  Then, I asked the kids: “What is the story problem?”  The students wrote story problems to match the answer in their math notebooks.  It was amazing! These problems allowed my students to work at their own pace and ability level.  You can see from some of the samples that one student wrote a simple number sentence, one student wrote a story with three addends, and another student created a double digit subtraction story problem.  They had so much fun sharing their stories with one another (and I didn’t mind the extra writing practice, too!).
I was out today for a professional development meeting on close reads. So, I am a day late on getting my plans up for you.  I still hope you can find a few ideas to use this week or next week in your classroom. 🙂 Here we go!

Thanks for stopping by everyone! I hope you all have a fantastic week! I am excited to write genius essays with my kiddos and put some new close reading knowledge to work in my room. I also get to spend Thursday evening working with some teachers in a nearby school district on small group organization. I can’t wait! I love getting the chance to meet other educators and share ideas together.
