My 2012-2013 First Grade Classroom!

I’m so excited to share my classroom with you today.  I’ve spent weeks on it and I’m so happy with the way it turned out.  I’ve done a theme in my room for the past 4 years now and this year I had a hard time choosing one – until I went on my honeymoon!  It won’t be hard to tell that I didn’t want to leave Punta Cana. 🙂

Welcome to Mrs. Wagers’ First Grade Paradise!
(My new married name.)
To the right of the door are the kids’ cubbies.  Book bins are labeled, filled, and ready to go! 🙂

View from the door.  Monday night is Teacher Meet & Greet.  I’m giving each student “magic confetti” to help them sleep the night before their first day and a colorful lei.
Math center.  On the top of the bookshelf are Hope King’s math centers that I am using for Math by Myself work this year.  The 8 numbered tubs each contain a dry erase marker, playing cards, and an eraser to use with the games.  The bottom two shelves house each month’s Math with Someone games: Bump, Race to 100, Poison, and Top It! for the month of September.

Guided Reading table and magnetic word wall. To the right of the table are my leveled book baskets for take-home books.
Calendar, Math Meeting Board, and CAFE board.  The two bookshelves are filled with nonfiction books by topic.  I accidentally cut out my tall fiction bookshelf that is to the left.
 Lunch choice & attendance.
Writing Center with supplies, paper, editing hats.  The second shelf houses our six word work bins used during Daily 5.

Writer’s Workshop board.  Students will move their mini clothespin to the writing stage they are currently on.  We will do this as a whole class until after Christmas, and after I get brave, I’ll set them free haha.
Our bucket board!

My desk area.

Student work board.  These will be covered with a get-to-know you craft after the first week of school.
View from the back of the room.

Thanks for “touring” my room with me!  I can’t believe tomorrow is already our Meet the Teacher night.  I’ll be spending allll day writing lesson plans when I get back from church.  I’ve also linked up with some great linky parties to share my room with others.  Click the picture below to check out other great bloggers’ classrooms. 🙂

  1. I would've loved to have had you teach my children…and not only so I could scope the ideas in your room at parent conferences! But I think I'd have need to talk to you in person a lot. Beautiful job!

  4. I really enjoyed looking at your room and getting ideas for next year. As a first year teacher (coming to an end for my first year), I see so many things in your room that could have helped my Kindergarteners be more organized. Only having three days to get set up too didn't help much either. And the majority of those days other educators from the school kept coming in to introduce themselves to me and chat. I will definitely be using some of your ideas for my new Kinders next year. Thank you for sharing! I do have a few questions though:

    1. What is "magic confetti"?

    2. What is the "fill bucket" board used for?

    3. What is the CAFE board?
